Preparing to Save Lives, Three Triangles at a Time

20100929_first_aid_refresher_001At CMRCA, nothing is more important than safety.  Last week the CMRCA instructor team worked their way through a day-long wilderness first aid refresher.  Led by Instructor John Hovey, they reviewed essential wilderness first aid systems and practiced key skills.  Four assistant instructors also earned their CPR certification from the American Red Cross.

CMRCA is committed to upholding the highest levels levels of safety and training.  One year ago, we hosted a full week Wilderness First Aid course for all our staff.  We might be break dancing in C Collars, but we are really serious about first aid!

The next Wilderness First Aid course in Chiang Mai will be in February or March.  Contact CMRCA if you are interested in participating.

ISDSI Celebrates Growth, Challenge, and Adventure!

10092010_isdsi_tr-tyr_027

After three weeks in northern Thailand, the students on this semester’s International Sustainable Development Studies Institute (ISDSI) program have experienced quite a lot: living with host families, riding in songthaeows, learning to speak Thai, and even enduring brutal CrossFit training.  Perhaps after navigating Chiang Mai’s public transportation and doing untold thousands of pushups, pulling themselves across a Tyrolean Traverse beneath the soaring, beautifully featured ceiling of Anxiety State Crisis cave seemed like a walk in the Sunday Market.  In any case, we weren’t surprised to see ISDSI take on every challenge with an incredible level of determination and enthusiasm!

Everyone showed exemplary personal leadership and teamwork throughout the day.  We were especially impressed by your ambitious goal-setting and willingness to engage in personal growth.  From the fisherman handshakes to the tops of the climbs, it was a truly outstanding day!

We love working with ISDSI — not just because of our special fondness for five-letter acronyms.  CMRCA is proud to contribute to the powerful leadership and learning experiences that you create every semester.  We look forward to seeing you in the coming months and hearing about your adventures in the rest of Thailand!  Climb ON!

Let the Love Rain Down

10092010_isdsi_tr-tyr_014CMRCA is busy with program after exciting program as student groups come back to Thailand.  We’re delighted to report that the Chiang Mai region is a safer, greener, cleaner, and more interesting destination than ever.  Monsoon rains bring the jungle roaring to life, local markets are bustling whatever the weather, and we still can’t think of a place more suited to experiential education, cultural immersion, and outdoor adventure.

Also, this just in: AirAsia, the continent’s largest low-cost airline carrier, announced that they will make Chiang Mai their third hub in Thailand.  This means more affordable direct flights from more cities around Southeast Asia… which means you’re that much closer to an unforgettable group adventure.

Contact CMRCA to find out more about what makes northern Thailand perfect for outdoor education and service leadership!  The love and the learning are pouring down this rainy season.

What kind of experience will you create?

Summer Adventure Camps in Chiang Mai!

Are you looking for something new and adventurous to enhance your summer experience?

Chiang Mai Rock Climbing Adventures (CMRCA) is offering a series of 4-day climbing camps that will give you all the skills you need to become an explorer in the vertical world.  Camp will begin with a session at CMRCA’s indoor bouldering wall, located in the heart of Chiang Mai’s Old City.  In the afternoon we will travel 35 km east of the city to Mae On, where we will camp in the shadow of Crazy Horse Buttress.  We will spend the next two full days climbing on world-class limestone, exploring ancient caves, and learning skills necessary to become a climber.  We will also visit local hot springs and sacred caves, practice “jungle survival” cooking techniques, tell stories around the campfire, and sleep under the stars.

CMRCA’s Rock Climbing Summer Camps have been designed for students ages 15-18.  Advanced climbing camp may be offered later in the summer, as an extension of this introductory session.

Tentative Camp Dates: 23-26 July, 2-5 August.

Contact camps@thailandclimbing.com for more information and pricing.
